At the prestigious World Travel Award ceremony, Liget Budapest Projekt, celebrating its decade-long journey, won as the best tourism development in Europe this year. Benedek Györgyevics, the driving force behind the project and the CEO of Városliget Zrt., shared the exciting news.

The recent recognition of the World Travel Awards confirms that Budapest’s primary family theme park, including the Városliget Arena, the impressive House of Hungarian Music and the Museum of Ethnography, ranks high among the world’s best tourist destinations.

The award, called the „Oscar of Tourism”, not only crowns the Liget Budapest Project as Europe’s most comprehensive cultural urban development, but also places it among the most important tourism developments globally. The project competed against the world’s most sought-after new tourist attractions and was awarded first place by jury and audience votes, beating competitors from Spain, Portugal and Germany. The World Travel Awards, the pinnacle of the international travel, tourism and hospitality industry, recognizes the best initiatives in the sector every year among thousands of competitors.

Benedek Györgyevics expressed his great honor that the Liget Budapest Project was chosen as Europe’s leading tourism development at one of the world’s most important tourism competitions, the World Travel Awards. From the planning stage, the renovation of the Liget aimed to make the park a must-see for visitors to Budapest. Attractions such as the House of Hungarian Music, the Museum of Ethnography, and the Balloon Observatory are attracting more and more foreign visitors to mark their place on the international tourist map. The long-term goal is for the park to introduce constantly renewed cultural contents and recreational experiences, so that the park becomes a destination worth visiting and revisiting.
